Every layer has a job. Understand what goes under your floor, what creates its finish, and what protects the surface.
01
Moisture vapor barrier
A specialized coating applied to prepared concrete to help reduce moisture vapor moving up through the slab. It helps protect the bond between the concrete and the coatings above it.
We assess the slab and select a compatible moisture-control system when needed. It manages vapor; it does not repair leaks or replace waterproofing for standing water or water pressure.
02
Epoxy
A resin and hardener mixed together to cure into a bonded floor coating. Epoxy forms the body of the floor system, providing a durable surface that can carry solid color, decorative flakes, or metallic pigments.
The preparation, product, and application determine its performance. Epoxy can change color in sunlight, so sun-exposed areas need a coating system chosen for that environment.
03
Topcoat
The final protective wear layer applied over the epoxy or decorative finish. It helps protect the surface and makes everyday cleaning easier.
The product determines the sheen, wear protection, and resistance to stains, chemicals, and sunlight. Grip additives can be included where appropriate for the space.
The finishing layer
Standard or UV-resistant?
Sun exposure, traffic, and how the space is used guide the topcoat choice.

What to consider
Standard topcoat
UV-resistant topcoat
Purpose
A protective wear coat for the chosen floor system.
A protective wear coat formulated for improved UV stability.
Sun exposure
Often considered for interiors with limited sunlight; suitability depends on the product.
Considered for areas exposed to more sunlight, with an appropriate underlying system.
Color stability
UV and yellowing resistance vary by formulation.
Better resistance to UV-related discoloration of the topcoat. Underlying epoxy may still change color.
Finish & grip
Sheen and grip additives are chosen for the space.

“Standard” and “UV-resistant” describe options, not one specific product. Your estimate identifies the selected coating system. For exterior use, we match all layers to the exposure.

Prepared concrete
We grind the concrete, repair suitable defects, and remove dust and contaminants to prepare a sound surface for the coating system.
